The King & I, Summer 2000 The Hong Kong Singers presented Rodgers and Hammerstein's award-winning musical, which took to the stage at the City Hall Theatre from 10 to 14 May 2000. A cast of 75 (including 20 talented children and a dance troupe), complemented by a full orchestra, performed the songs and scenes that have made this show a hit ever since its first production on Broadway in 1951. The Director: The show was directed by Ian Robinson who has directed The Mikado, Trial By Jury and Annie for the Hong Kong Singers and several large Christmas Pantomimes for the Hong Kong Players. The Musical Director: Musical direction was under the secure baton of Julian Grant. This was Julians first show with the Hong Kong Singers, and what a success it was! Julian is an opera composer and conductor. He has been nominated twice for an "Olivier Award" and has had work commissioned by The Royal Opera House and English National Opera. The Singers welcome Julian and are delighted to have secured his services for this production.
